It’s warm under His wing!

‘Because you have made the Lord your refuge, the Most High your dwelling place, no evil shall befall you, no scourge come near your tent. For He will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways. On their hands they will bear you up, so that you will not dash your foot against a stone. You will tread on the lion and adder, the young lion and the serpent you will trample under foot.’ Psalm 91: 9-13

imagesI love the opening of Psalm 91..under His wings you will find refuge (v4). That picture of safety and protection is so inviting and secure. But what about us making our refuge in Him? And further more..that promise of evil not befalling us! Can that really be true? I was chatting to a friend this evening who really inspired me; a man who is facing some really tough challenges and choices…and yet is facing them with an incredible sense of God’s protection. It’s almost as if through his integrity and Faith he is truly ‘in’ the world on one level..and yet truly ‘not of the world’ in his response to hardship and uncertainty. Yes, he is engaging with and not ignoring the challenges..and yet has intentionally decided to make God his refuge. The resultant release of love and Grace is so significant that it has changed even his outward appearance..he literally glows with the Glory of God.

He has chosen the higher ground, he has chosen to trust when the world would tell him to struggle, fight. He has chosen the quiet of God’s presence over the noise of reaction and rebellion. He is truly dwelling in the refuge of the Most High. Regardless of the earthly out workings..he is untouchable. This is a rare thing..it’s beautiful to behold, you can almost see the angels. Almost.
