It’s poppy time. I currently sit at Euston station, waiting for a train to carry me to Birmingham. I am on a pilgrimage; expectant, hungry, desperate to encounter more of God. A General in full military regalia smiles and thrusts a poppy box into my path. I stop, I pay, I pin. I weep. I am immediately transported to a past life where God was seemingly so absent. A life where once I wore a uniform, rallied to a flag. Going up the escalator I saw this picture, painted by the English artist Sir Stanley Spencer..’Heaven in a hell of war’. Did he manage to find something that all those years ago I could not? Your Kingdom Come, Your Will be Done..everywhere on earth as it is in Heaven.
