Tears in a bottle

You keep track of all my sorrows.
You have collected all my tears in your bottle.
You have recorded each one in your book. Psalm 56:8

Psalm 56 is simply so beautiful; there is David, in trouble again! And yet, in the midst of this Psalm there is this deeply intimate moment where he simply acknowledges how attentive the Lord is to his situation; how compassionate he is.

I was visiting a friend’s house church the other day, and whilst we were worshiping I had an imprint of a lady who was standing in mud, unable to move. She was weeping, and as she did so, her tears fell to the ground and softened the mud that was holding her feet; finally she was able to move. I was immediately reminded of this Psalm.

Over the years, we can often find ourselves seeming unable to move forward in the Christian life. Whether that is simply in our spiritual walk, or more often (like David), in real life situations; things can feel hopeless at times. We can often feel stuck! Now, whilst I’m not suggesting that we foam at the mouth like David did to escape, God is a God of rescue, of deliverance, and sometimes the way he works is pretty unusual. That’s certainly my experience.

So..hang in there. Know that every tear that you shed is not only seen, but is so precious to God that he collects them, records them. He has to be pretty close to do that!
